In Response To GwenInRealLife’s “LUSH COSMETICS: “Controversial” Changes” YouTube Video.

Hey guys!

Another rant here!

So, I just watched GwenInRealLife’s YouTube Video “LUSH COSMETICS: “Controversial “Changes” YouTube Video. I had so much to say that I decided to write a comment – only it ended up being really, really long, so I thought it would be much more appropriate to write in my blog!

So, here it is:

Okay, so I’m going to be super honest and be careful for what I wish for.

I genuinely and honestly wish that Lush was almost exactly how it was years ago. I’m talking about around 2015 when it was super chill but still super fun to visit your local Lush store to just try a few new fresh, exciting, pampering, luxury skin care products. That wasn’t even that long ago, but it really feels that way because of how much has changed since then.

In my local Lush store there used to be just a fairly small table with wooden crate baskets on with bath bombs, and another fairly small wooden table with crate baskets on it for the bubble bars and miscellaneous bath products like the cauldron bath melt thing. There was half a wall for the makeup, half a wall for the skin care, half a wall for the gift sets and half a wall for the hair care. The store was just 4 small walls – the other 2 walls being the entrance and the wall lined with a few cashiers. Besides this there were 2 more tables in the store – one with the fresh face masks on it, and one with the soaps on it, piled high. On the cashier counter was just a few little lip scrubs, lip balms and lip scrubs. THAT WAS IT.

And it was pretty close to perfection.

I never got the chance to try Yuzu and Cocoa shower cream. Little losses like that hurt my soul.

I hate all the new products they’re coming out with.

Okay, I don’t specifically hate them, but I hate that they’re releasing them.

Lush has become entirely overwhelming to me. Lush used to be a place where a lot of people with mental health problems could go to find some sort of sanctuary and peace and happiness and escape from the stress and crappiness they came across in life. Now Lush has become PART of my mental health problems! Seriously! My happy place has been turned into a money making factory. I still find some happiness in the company here and there, but I used to be excited by the feeling that I was slowly trying all of the products, and would have tried them all within a year or so of CASUALLY buying them if they hadn’t started chucking out so many products all the time like they do now. Now I know I’ll never try them all. I’ll never know what my favourite of each range is and IF I do, they’ll release new things in that range a month later or something.

I MISS THE OLD LUSH. I MISS IT SO MUCH.

The only things they could have done with experimenting more with back then was the makeup range. I remember how exciting it was when they released Outback Mate. It was like, wow, something new for the first time in a few months, and it was a GOOD THING. I liked it taking a few months for a handful of new permanent range products to be released.

I wish they would just be more decisive and EDIT their permanent line, and MAKE IT A PERMANENT LINE. i.e, DON’T MESS WITH IT. Don’t remove products that people LIKE, get rid of the ones people DON’T LIKE VERY MUCH. Don’t add new products constantly, just add a few new ones EVERY NOW AND THEN.

If you used to shop at Lush from around 2009-2016, you KNOW what I’m talking about. I miss it so much.

They need to get their shit together, maybe to a massive Kon Mari of their products. I literally feel like Lush is the equivalent to a hoarders messy stash right now. They just need to calm the heck down – I get that they’re a business and I get that they want people using their products because of how they have a much less negative effect on the environment, but sometimes more is less and I think they’ve taken it too far. They messed with a really, really good thing.

It isn’t even like they were doing bad business back then – they were doing really well! They just went sort of viral and yeah. I just hope they get the message and bring Lush back to its prior glory days.

It’s not that I think the innovating isn’t good sometimes – I think they’ve done really, really good things with the makeup range that 100% would have bettered the 2009-2015 stores (these naked highlighters, all the lipsticks). I also agree that them being more conscious of their affect on the environment is overall, a good thing, but I also wish they could implement what they’re doing in a better way. I liked all the shower gels being liquid (like they’re supposed to be), and think they could have a different system – maybe one where you have to bring your own bottle and have a pay by weight system or something. That way rather than making reusable packaging or no packaging at all, they’re actually utilising what people would otherwise throw away or attempt to recycle.

Please Lush, edit and simplify your range. CUSTOMERS LIKE AND WANT SIMPLE. I’d rather give up all the new products that I enjoy (the lipsticks, highlighters, the Don’t Look At Me Face mask etc) if it meant having a much smaller, much more reliable permanent range of products, and a lot lower volume of dropping temporary line products for different occasions. Lower the stress of your store. Please.

Lush Ocean Salt Self-Preserving & Alcohol Free Face and Body Scrub Review

Whew… That was a mouthful!

I just used it up while taking my bath 🙂 I hope you enjoy!

Ocean Salt Self-Preserving & Alcohol Free Face and Body Scrub:

Rating: 4/5*

Cons:

This is a product that is only available online as far as I know. That is something that can be a bit of a pain sometimes!

I actually couldn’t get this scrub to work by itself at all. It just wouldn’t do anything for my face whatsoever in terms of exfoliation. I learnt to first exfoliate my face with an exfoliating glove (£1 in Poundland etc) and THEN to use the face scrub.

Even after already scrubbing my face, the product still doesn’t really have much additional scrubbing action. I don’t know why this is. I honestly don’t. All I know is that this product isn’t very scrubby, and I’d have to keep applying the scrub to my face for it to actually work how I wanted it to!

This scrub stings when it is on your face! If you get it in your eyes, I’m so sorry. If you have any slight injuries on your face, perhaps a healing spot or a cracked lip, again, I’m sorry.

Pros:

This scrub will leave your skin so, so, so smooth. Smoother than it has ever felt. This is only slightly due to the scrubbiness of the product, and is more due to all of the oils and butters that the product contains. My face doesn’t feel oily at all, it just feels smooth and plump and lovely.

I really like the smell, and even secretly kinda like the taste of this product. I mean, I wouldn’t eat spoonfuls of the stuff, but a tiny bit always gets in my mouth while I’m scrubbing my face. It just tastes like salt. I like salt. Anyways, it smells and tastes fresh and like the ocean, in a non gross way. It is like all the good parts of the sea being squished into a product. I love it!

This is vegan and is also alcohol free. Other versions of this product are not vegan, and other versions are not alcohol free. This version has all the good things going for it! I think the product smells better without the vodka to be honest, and it also seems to work better. Either way, anyone who has ethics against alcohol and/or against vegan can use this product!

This product is alright for sensitive skin – at least more so than the version that contains alcohol!

This version of Ocean Salt is REALLY nourishing and feels very healthy on the skin compared to the other versions. I think it is the lime oil being steeped in glycerine instead of vodka. We all know that glycerine is a humectant, and draws moisture to the skin. I also found that with the other version of this product (Ocean Salt Self-Preserving,) it left a sort of sticky, oily residue on my skin. This version does not. The product is incredibly light and just absorbs into the skin.

My skin hasn’t exactly been perfect recently, but it has been better than usual. I have had quite a few spots recently, but more randomly placed around my face rather than being almost rash-like. My cheeks have been entirely clear, and my blackheads have reduced immensely. Maybe that’s part due to this product?

Overall Conclusion:

Overall, I like this scrub quite a bit. I am surprised to say that I much prefer it to the non alcohol free version, considering that only one ingredient is different (vodka vs glycerine.) I do wish it was more scrubby though! And that it would hurt my skin a little less… I dunno, I guess the product could be quite a bit more effective, but it’s not bad.

I’m going to rate this product a 4/5* rating. It leaves my face real soft, what more could I want really?

Out of the vegan facial scrubs available on the Lush UK website on 03/03/17, this is my favourite facial scrub!

Lush Respect Your Elders Soap Review

Hey everyone! First and foremost, I want to briefly go over my method for writing my reviews, so that anyone reading them knows the basis in which my reviews were written. If you’d like to skip straight ahead to the review, just scroll down a little 🙂

Before anything else, my method of course consists of my obtaining a product from Lush. This could be as a gift from somebody, a sample or a full product.

The second step of my method is to try out the product in a “proper” way. This basically just using the product in a way so that I am not wasting any, and in a way that it will actually work to the best of its ability. While doing this, I will be thinking about the product and all its little unique aspects.

The next step to my method is to COMPLETELY finish up the product that I have – be it a sample, miniature size of the product, regular size or anything in between. This is so that I have a fully informed opinion of the product and the entire experience of using it. This is a very important step to me, because reviewing a product after one use, say a soap, is like reading the first page of a book in my eyes. I want to have an opinion of the entire product experience so that afterwards I know how much I truly like, and would like to repurchase, that product or not.

Once the product is completely finished, I upload my review of it!

My overall mission here is to find my favouite of each product type Lush sells, so that I can ultimately just primarily keep repurchasing that one product of that category – so my favourite shampoo, my favourite conditioner, my favourite soap, favourite body wash product etc.

I hope you enjoy my review today!

Respect Your Elders Soap (100g):

Rating: 4/5*

Cons:

This soap becomes absolutely disgusting once you reach the center of the soap. I’m not even joking. It started breaking up into pieces, and those pieces turned pale and kinda grey and honestly, looked like chunks of brain. That’s how my partner described the soap’s appearance once it had reached that point and honestly, I totally agree. It looked so flipping nasty!

Once the soap gets really broken in and turns soft, it doesn’t lather up super easily like it would before. It kinda goes mushy and yeah, it becomes more of a challenge to obtain a proper lather from the product.

I don’t know if this is just because of it being a soap in general or what, but I found this soap to be somewhat drying to my hands. Not extremely so, but definitely somewhat.

The name is… I dunno! It makes me feel like I’m supposed to be an elderly person using the soap or something..? I know that is ridiculous and stupid, I’m just not a fan of the name of this one! It is also a bit of a mouthful to say to be honest!

Pros:

This soap is purple!!! I didn’t take a photo of the soap before I started using it unfortunately (I only actually do that for the bath products I use – I shall get into the habit of photographing my products ASAP!) It is just… ugh. Super flipping gorgeous. It was a very, very dark purple, with a yoghurty lighter purple shade on the top of it. Absolutely gorgeous! Here’s a photo that I have found that looks very similar to how my piece of soap did. I found the image on Becky Bedbug’s blog post:

respect-your-elders-soap

This soap lathers up quite nicely. Before you reach the center of the soap, the soap lathers up absolutely wonderfully. A very creamy lather that appears super easily. Once you reach the center of the soap, the lather is more difficult to obtain but is still very creamy.

The texture of the soap, again, until you reach the center, is lovely. The soap has a rougher, bumpy texture on the top of it, that feels really nice as you massage the bar into your hands. This bumpiness also makes the soap very slightly exfoliating, and allows for a very easy lather. It also makes the soap more interesting!

The smell was lovely. It smelled like dark, rich berries. If you like fruity berry smells then I promise that you’ll love the smell of this soap!

The soap worked well and did its job at cleaning my hands!

Respect Your Elders is slightly moisturising, which is a nice touch.

Overall Conclusion:

Overall, this soap was really nice when I was first using it, before the soap started breaking up into pieces. I was actually really pleasantly surprised by this soap. I have hardly heard anyone speaking about this soap at all – in fact, I think I haven’t actually heard anyone mentioning this soap. It is so nice though, so it is a shame that it doesn’t get much attention! I enjoyed this soap, but it was also far from perfect…

I’m going to rate this soap a 4/5* rating, because it was really nice but could definitely do with some major tweaks!

Lush Magical Moringa Moisturiser Review

Magical Moringa Moisturiser:

Rating: 3/5*

Cons:

If you want to really feel your face feeling very moisturised after using a moisturiser, this is not the one for you! After using a moisturiser, I like to really be able to feel the product on my skin, so that I know it is doing its job! After applying a lot of this moisturiser you can feel it on the skin, but… I don’t know… It just doesn’t really feel as moisturising as any other moisturiser I have used from Lush to be honest!

Sometimes, I actually found this moisturiser to be drying to my skin! My concealer would sit terribly and wouldn’t be able to blend out well at all when applied over a layer of Magical Moringa… Honestly, I think this moisturiser by itself is pretty terrible!

Any makeup on my face would just look dry, flakey, cakey and would just settle in any texture on my face whatsoever, after using this moisturiser by itself. It definitely isn’t one that really improves the overall appearance of one’s makeup!

You have to use A LOT of this product to feel it doing anything at all to your skin.

Okay, this is going to sound strange, but… This moisturiser smells like curry. Like a delicious, spicy curry. Maybe some of you guys don’t want your face smelling like a good ol’curry all day 😀

This moisturiser melts with the warmth of your fingers – it is what it melts into that scares me a bit. It melts into an oil pretty much. Applying something so oily to my skin kind of terrifies me because I have very sensitive skin, so it is easy for me to get acne! If you are quite acne prone then I really wouldn’t suggest this one for you.

THIS MOISTURISER IS SO EXPENSIVE!!! No, seriously. It is definitely a love or hate product so guys, if you are interested please for the love of God, get a sample before purchasing it!

This moisturiser not only doesn’t FEEL very moisturising on the skin at all, it also takes away any APPEARANCE of moisture in your skin. For some people, this is absolutely fantastic! For me, I like some slight dewyness to my skin because I think moisturised skin looks more healthy. If you feel the same way then again, steer away from this little guy!

Pros:

Okay so for me personally, I absolutely love the smell of this moisturiser! I don’t care if my face smells like a Indian spices, so long as it smells good! Like, this is the best smelling moisturiser that I think I’ve ever smelt… It smells absolutely incredible!

This moisturiser applied over the top of a good serum works absolutely fine. In fact, I really like the way this moisturiser works over a serum. It isn’t heavy at all, the serum keeps the skin’s texture slighly dewy and looking healthy, the serum keeps the skin nicely moisturised… Under a serum, this moisturiser just leaves your skin feeling really soft, incredibly smooth and quite lovely!

I haven’t had any absolutely terrible acne while using this moisturiser, although it certainly hasn’t stopped my acne from occurring either. But it at least hasn’t appeared to make it any worse!

I find that I need to re-apply powder to my face a little less when using this moisturiser as opposed to others from Lush. It doesn’t stop me from needing to re-apply powder entirely, but it does keep my face looking alright for longer.

Again, when applied OVER a serum, my makeup just sort of “works” better than it usually would. I don’t have to apply so much concealer because it just goes further over the top of a serum and Magical Moringa. I’m not quite sure why, but it is a really nice quality of this moisturiser.

Honestly, I received this moisturiser as a sample and man, Lush was generous with their sample of this moisturiser. It lasted me a really nice amount of time! Definitely worth asking for a good sample of Magical Moringa Moisturiser to try at home, right?

Overall Conclusion:

Overall, meh… I don’t really know what to think of this one.

For the billionth time, it works nicely under a serum, but do I really want to be applying a serum to my face EVERY MORNING…? I usually prefer to apply a serum before bed or something, so that it can sink in while I sleep and so that my skin doesn’t feel so heavy throughout the day…

The smell is really nice though, and the effects over a serum are honestly pretty damn good.

I’m going to rate this moisturiser a 3/5* rating. It’s a shame because it does smell absolutely delicious… I just don’t really think it was moisturising enough for me.

Before trying Lush products, I would have thought this moisturiser to be absolutely perfect for me, because my skin can get really oily throughout the day. But since using Lush products, I’ve sort of learnt just how much your skin needs moisture in order to be its healthiest, and I just don’t feel that this moisturiser provided that for me personally.

How to spot a Lushie…

First off, I got this blog post idea from this blog post by Justlushthings!

I hope you enjoy! 😀

1. While a NORMAL person would wander into different stores during different shopping trips…

…A Lushie is far easier to spot. It’s the passion in their eyes and the determination in their stride that gives it away. You can almost HEAR the one track mind of a Lushie as they march past you, headed toward their heaven on earth… “lush…lush…lush…lush…” A Lushie doesn’t know where they will shop after the fact, but they do know one thing: Lush comes first.

2. While a NORMAL person would spend their free time on many different shopping sites, YouTube channels and blog sites…

…A Lushie is only ever truly one browser tab away from a Lush product. After writing that line, I looked up to check what my tabs are – 10 of my 12 tabs on this window are directly Lush related. They just can’t help it. Lush truly is a fast acting drug, a terribly powerful addiction that affects both the victims thoughts and actions…

3. While a NORMAL person buys tons of different types of products…

…A Lushie  will rarely think of their money as well spent, unless it was spent on a Lush product. Aye, a lushie’s cupboards be barren of food, their wardrobe be bare of clothes, their bookshelf haveth no books – yet these containers still remain full… The riddle is not a difficult one to solve should you know the natural behaviours of the Lushie. Yes, that is correct. The Lushie, rather bewilderingly, chooses instead to fill any container they can get their hands on… with Lush products.

4. While a NORMAL person would buy different types of gifts for different people…

… A Lushie will always find a way to rationalise giving anyone and everyone a Lush product for any and every gift giving occasion. In their eyes, there is the right Lush product for everyone – I mean, who could hate receiving something from Lush… Know someone who loves lavender? I could easily find 5 Lush products that feature lavender as one of their main ingredients. Perhaps someone is particularly fond of the colour green – Lush have TONS of green products!!! Know someone who is quite classy? There are many luxurious yet simple Lush products that are perfectly suitable for a classy lady. Is it a male you’re shopping for – Lush do tons of masculine products!

5. While a NORMAL person would have loads of different types of photos on their phone…

… A Lushie’s photo album on their laptop, phone and social media sites will be absolutely full of photos of Lush products… Sure, there will be the odd selfie, the odd photo of a random cat the Lushie saw whilst wandering around town, but the vast majority will be of Lush bath art and the like!

6. While a NORMAL person would pick a new home based on a variety of very important factors…

… A Lushie has different priorities: The property must have a BATH – preferably with bath jets for extra bubbly bubble baths, and a decent sized bathroom cabinet (precious storage space!) Yes, I genuinely limited myself to only rent a flat that had a bath installed. I wouldn’t want to miss out on all of those Lush bath products!!!

7. While a NORMAL person would reach for various different shampoos when in the shower, soaps when washing their hands…

… A Lushie will ALWAYS choose a Lush product – provided that they own a Lush version of the product they need to use, of course. The only times a Lushie may stray and use a drugstore shower gel, shampoo and so on, is when they just need a REALLY quick, non-committal shower. No true Lushie wants to hurry whilst using their products. Using a Lush product properly requires specific steps, a certain… finesse, that simply cannot be rushed!

And finally, while a NORMAL person’s blog would contain a nice, well rounded mix of blog post topics, a Lushie will, whether intentionally or unintentionally, seem to almost exclusively post about Lush!

The Lushie’s ways may seem bizarre, but do not be quick to judge them. They are very intelligent creatures of the earth and are very wise – much could be learned from their kind… (Although, these words may not be quite so convincing when they come from a crazed Lushie herself…!)

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you can think of any more, write them below – I’d love to read some more hilarious ways of the Lushie!
