Questions from Lise

  1. Do you have a saying that you don’t necessarily intend to use but still do
I guess I say “um” a lot and don’t mean to? It’s not really a saying but it’s the closest thing I can think of… Oh, and I say “It’s like” before explaining something to someone too. And “You know what I mean though” while explaining something to someone…
  2. What would be your ideal living situation?
I love my current living situation, so something pretty similar to what I have now! Basically living with my partner. I wish we lived in our own mortgaged home though rather than a rented flat, and I wish we lived somewhere warmer or somewhere closer to my family. Other than that it’s pretty perfect!
  3. If you could have any non traditional pet, what would it be?
I would have… A little baby snake… Or a ferret if that’s counted as being non-traditional… Or an ocelot. Oh, one of them Savannah cats. Or a lizard. Or a serval, or a pig. I’ve genuinely always wanted a pet pig. Honestly I love all animals to bits and I’d be happy to take care of almost any animal if I could!
  4. What would be your dream job? Do you already have it?
I haven’t had a job for over 5 years! Terrible I know, I know. I’ve been a student since then. That’s no excuse to not work but full-time education does take a lot of work! So I definitely do not already have my dream job. My dream job would be to get paid to do something to do with travel, animals, nature, warm countries and statistics. So like an ecology statistician or something? It wouldn’t even feel like a job – it would be amazing! I don’t know how likely it would ever be though considering I’m getting a degree in Astrophysics and not in Ecology haha! Hopefully I’ll find a way 🙂
  5. What does blogging mean to you?
Blogging is my outlet. It’s my way to de-stress, to vent… To be free really! I feel entirely free with my blog to literally express myself however I want, which is amazing. I find blogging insanely therapeutic and that’s actually the reason I started my blog – I started it up when I was in a pretty dark time in my life and just felt like creating a blog was the best way I could help myself to feel a bit better. It’s also a nice way to have some public permanence if that makes sense? Like a way for me to “define” myself in a “certain” way? Basically blogging makes me happy!
  6. Do you have any weird holiday traditions?
Mmm… I always bring pretty much only Lush products with me on holiday, and will usually do a little Lush shop before going on holiday to make sure I have a solid shampoo and some sort of solid body wash and toothpaste etc. We also always search on Happycow to find all the local vegan restaurants, and try to visit the ones that sound the most amazing while in that country. We only really book holidays in affordable European countries… And we always seem to pack in a panic the same morning of our flight! Can’t think of anything specific though. Oh and on the flight, if we have the two outer seats I’ll always sit in the aisle, and if we have the two inner seats I’ll always sit by the window.
  7. Is there a fictional character you would have loved to meet in real life? Which one?
Not that I can think of? Oh, any Star Trek character for sure.
  8. What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
The best purchase is… Paying rent for this flat if that counts? If not then… God there are way too many good purchases!!! Um I’m going to go with Coalface from Lush – not because of how good the product is (although it is decent,) but because of what that purchase lead to. It was the first thing I bought from Lush and opened me up to the happy world of Lush! Worst purchase… Uhh… Once I bought a “vegetarian” samosa that actually ended up being lamb flavour or something and I only knew once I had bitten into it. That was a pretty bad purchase. I’m really frugal so I’ve never wasted a bunch of money on something to only regret it honestly.
  9. Whats the worst screw up you’ve ever had in the kitchen?
I don’t really cook but I could tell you some kitchen horrors that Richard has conjured up! Oh, I used to toast poppadoms in the toaster and they would always end up as charcoal and setting on fire.
  10. Do you have any “useless” talents? What are they?
I have really clicky fingers. Like I can click them all at once like most people do, but then I can go and click them all individually aswell. It’s not really a talent, just gross really isn’t it. I’m very talented at stressing out. And I can whistle. Can’t really think of any other useless talents!
  11. Has anyone ever tricked you into believing something and then you discovered it wasn’t true? What was it?
I’m really gullible so people do this all the time, but they always tell me straight afterwards so I never had to discover the thing wasn’t true. Like people have made me believe that there are exams on a day when there aren’t etc. Only little things though.

My questions:

  1. What would be your favourite place to visit abroad during the Summer?
  2. What is something exciting that you hope to happen this Summer?
  3. What are some activities that you have planned for this Summer?
  4. What is your favourite season and why?
  5. What are some of your go-to outfits for the Summertime?
  6. What is the best holiday you’ve ever been on?
  7. What is your favourite thing about the Summer?
  8. If you had to move to a different country, where would you choose to move to and why?
  9. What are your favourite things to eat and drink during the Summer?
  10. What are some of your favourite Summertime fragrances?
  11. What are some purchases you hope to / need to make before or during this Summer?

I tried my best to make my questions kinda “sunny” and relevant to the title ‘The Sunshine Blogger Award’! I hope some of you enjoy answering them. To anyone who wants to answer my questions and who wants to be nominated – consider yourself nominated! Thanks again Lise, I’ve have fun writing this blog post 🙂

Lush Love You, Love You Lots Soap Review

Yes yes yes, I’m very aware that this is a really old product from Lush (Valentines Exclusive 2017,) but I’ve only just used it up. Here’s my review – I hope you enjoy!

Love You, Love You Lots Soap (100g):

love-you-love-you-lots-soap-lush-013117 (2)

Rating: 4/5*

Cons:

This was a Valentine’s Day Exclusive product in 2017 – it would be very difficult to get your hands on the soap now and would be even more difficult to stock up on should you happen to fall in love with it!

This is a very girly soap. It is pink, has the word “love” written in it with a heart for the ‘o’ (in translucent cherry red,) is super creamy and smells like soft, powdery roses. That’s not to say that a man couldn’t use and enjoy this soap of course! It just may not be the soap you want to purchase for a man or woman who doesn’t appreciate cute products very much.

The scent, although very soft, is still quite sweet and could become slightly sickly after a while!

Pros:

This soap was pretty creamy. If you have sensitive or dry skin, this soap would be a good one to try. I definitely found this soap to be more calming and soothing on my hands than a lot of other soaps I’ve tried.

‘Love You, Love You Lots’ lathered up really well.

This soap did a great job at cleaning my hands thoroughly.

This is an ADORABLE soap! It is a super cute bubblegum, pastel pink colour, with the word “love” on the top of it, with a heart for the ‘o’. The writing is in transclucent, cherry red. The whole product smells like powdery, soft roses (if that makes any sense!) It has a sweet, soft, floral, rosy scent. The name is really cute too. This is definitely a product for any girly girls who are into everything sweet scented and pink!

This product was gifted to me, and it made a really sweet gift as part of a gift box for Valentines Day!

Even as somebody who isn’t super girly, I think this soap looks really cute. The pink colour is different to any other soaps I’ve seen from Lush so far (or any other company for that matter.) This soap would even look lovely just being on display in the home!

The scent is quite inoffensive, because of how soft it is. It is definitely a feminine scent but it is so light and calming and pretty scented that I don’t think it is a scent that would bother anybody very much.

Overall Conclusion:

Overall, this soap was fine. The design was super cute, it smelled pleasant and at the end of the day, it did it’s job at cleaning my hands very well. The entire formulation of the product is inoffensive in general – the scent, the creaminess… I think this would be a really good gift for somebody you appreciates cute and feminine beauty products 🙂

Overall, I rate this soap a 4/5* rating. It was a really really lovely product, but wasn’t anything life changingly special to me. The best part about the soap was the concept – it’s just so flipping cute!

Life Update :D

Hey guys, I know I’ve been blogging a lot less lately, so I thought a life update would help catch everyone up on what’s been going on!

  1. My partner’s mother got married a couple of weeks ago! It was such a lovely wedding in a beautiful hotel in Richmond (south west London.)
  2. My holidays finally ended and University has begun for me! This is the main reason I have been blogging a lot less lately. Successfully studying a degree in Astrophysics when you’re not very good at maths or physics is pretty difficult, and takes up a lot of your time. So far it is going okay and I’m not TOO far behind in my modules, although I could definitely be doing better than I am. I’m positive that it will all be fine provided that I get all my assignments done on time etc.
  3. I turned 24 on the 17th October! I honestly don’t remember my birthday extremely well – me and my partner decided to just stay in and eat some Chinese takeaway, so it was all pretty relaxed. We weren’t both home from Uni / work until around 8pm, so the evening didn’t last too long. I did receive some lovely gifts though – including some amazing Bose 35-II noise cancelling headphones! Perfect for those days when you REALLY need to focus. I always seem to zone in on little irritating sounds going on around me when it’s least convenient, so these are perfect!
  4. I think I only mentioned it briefly in one of my blog posts, but me and my partner went to Mallorca for 12 nights back in late August / early September! It was absolutely amazing and is the longest we’ve been abroad together to this date. It begun to feel like a second home and honestly, I just want to go back!
  5. I’ve been a lot less enthusiastic about Lush lately. I’m still working on getting through a lot of products, and whenever I do get through one I will still be writing a review on it. It just doesn’t feel AS fun anymore and although I still absolutely love the company, working on using everything up is beginning to feel more like a chore to me now. I’ve accumulated so many products that the thought of finishing them all just feels overwhelming honestly. I also discovered that the majority of my bath products (bath bombs, bubble bars and bath oils) became damp while I’ve been storing them, so a lot of them are sort of disfigured and needing to be used up ASAP. It’s just all become quite stressful honestly!
  6. As some of you may know, I’ve been struggling a bit with mental health problems for a while now (probably for as long as I can remember actually,) and I finally plucked up the courage to stop dismissing my issues and to make a trip to my GP. I booked the appointment, Richard booked the day off of work and 2 weeks later, me and my partner were sitting in a chair facing my doctor. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience, but I’m glad I went.
The outcome of the appointment is that my GP is now sorting out me getting on the waiting list to see a psychologist (to get a diagnosis,) and we have a form so that I can self-refer myself to talking therapy. I refused my GP’s offer to go on SSRIs – I can’t stand them! Instead, after doing some research online I came across Tryptophan (a natural amino acid your brain needs to synthesize serotonin,) which I’ve been taking 3g of daily since around a month ago. The tryptophan has definitely been working although it isn’t perfect, so I’d definitely like to look into more supplements to begin taking (vitamin D, vitamin B complex etc.) It also felt nice to just offload some of my feelings, even if the appointment was quite rushed!
  7. As most of you know, I went on my own little weight loss journey as of December last year, and finally completed it a couple of months ago. Maintaining the weight has been quite difficult actually, because I love food SO much! I’ve been doing alright though. In fact, how about I weigh myself right now to see how I’m doing?
Okay, so my goal weight was 127.8 lbs, and that is exactly how much I weigh right now! Honestly though, I haven’t even eaten or drunk anything yet so technically, I should weigh a lb or so below that weight right now in order for my average weight to be 127.8 lbs throughout the day, but I’m doing okay!
  8. I recently reached 100 followers on WordPress! I had intended to open up a second social media account (perhaps Instagram) once I reached 100 followers on here, so that could very well be happening soon!

That’s all for now everyone! I hope you’re all doing well 🙂

See you next blog post!

Primark Try On Haul 2017! (No. 1)

Hey guys!

After I found out that I had gotten onto my degree , I decided to treat myself by going shopping in Primark. I didn’t feel confident in the clothes that I owned at the time. Clothing is extremely important! It covers up the majority of your body, and feeling unconfident in your clothing feels pretty crappy. It was about time that I bought some clothes that really make me feel good when I wear them. I prefer shopping in person (as opposed to online shopping) when it comes to clothes – I get to try on the clothes in store, and take them home that same day! I also chose Primark because, well, I need a lot of new clothes, and figured that it’d be best to try Primark first to pick up what I like there before trying other, more expensive stores.

My first trip to Primark was extremely successful! I arrived at the Oxford Street Store (the most popular Primark local to me) on a Wednesday morning (when it tends to be the least busy.) I only went to the checkout once I realised that my basket was in fact, overflowing with clothing items.

Let’s get onto the haul!

Note: I obviously didn’t bother taking photos of separate items that come in a multi-pack when they are identical to each-other (e.g the tights and the socks in this post.)

First off, I bought this absolutely gorgeous “wine” coloured dress! It’s a suedette bodycon, and I absolutely adore it- the colour really drew me in! It’s actually amazing quality too. This dress was £13, and I bought it in a size 10 – I’m around 5 ft 4 and 9st 2lbs for reference. I wore this on my anniversary to see Aladdin in the theatre. It makes me feel very elegant 🙂

Next I picked up this gorgeous dress! It is another bodycon dress in the colour black (they had a nude pink colour option too.) It has a peephole back with a little button, a high neck and a lace-up panel in the front. I really love this one! It cost me £13, and I also got this one in a size 10. It is a really good quality dress made out of nice, thick and comfortable material!

I spotted this gorgeous dress, and just had to get it! It has a really colourful leaf design on it, with a grey background. It also has cold-shoulder sleeves, which I love! It’s in a T-shirt dress style, which makes it really comfortable to wear. This beauty only cost me £3 – reduced from £6. 100% worth the money – it’s going to be absolutely perfect for my trip to Mallorca! I also grabbed this in a size 10.

I bought this pinafore dress in the colour “wine”. It is made out of this thick, corduroy material, and has two nice deep pockets in the front. It is super comfortable and is absolutely adorable! I’ve been wearing it all day today 🙂 It was £12, and I bought it in a size 10. They also had exactly the same pinafore dress in black and pink, and also had a blue denim and black denim version of the dress.

The black T-shirt in the photo was also part of my haul – it was £2.50 and I picked it up in a size 12 🙂 Also of very nice quality – it isn’t see through at all!

Next we have this gorgeous pair of dungarees! How absolutely amazing are they – especially for Primark?! I admit, I hadn’t been to Primark for a while prior to this haul, so my expectations were pretty low. They’ve really upped their game! They are black and have two simple suspender straps at the back, and the legs of the dungarees are in the skinny style. They have a nice big pocket in the front, as well as pockets in the front and back of the jeans. The jeans part of the dungarees also have belt loops – handy! They undo from the straps as dungarees usually do, but also have some buttons on the sides of the jeans to help get the job done. These were £17, and I picked them up in a size 12.

The T-shirt was also part of the Primark haul. It is a warm red colour, and cost £3. I bought this in a size 10. This top is made really well – it has a high neck, and is made of the most cozy material I have ever felt a T-shirt be made from! It is also completely opaque.

The socks were also part of the haul! They are just a pair of plain black trainer socks, that came in a 7 pack for £1.80 – absolute bargain! I got them in a size 4-8.

IMG_5555 (2).JPG
Next up is this adorable Pusheen T-shirt! It’s my perfect T-shirt “My Perfect Weekend – Eat, Blog, Party and Sleep.” Okay, so I’m not big on partying, but I do enjoy having a few drinks over the weekend with my partner if that counts! It cost me £6 (fairly pricey for Primark I must say,) and I picked it up in a size 10/12.

I also picked up the black leggings – they are viscose, full length and were, insanely, only £2.80! I got them in a size 10. These leggings are amazing – they’re completely opaque and are insanely comfortable. I could actually live in these.

Next are these two shirts. The first is a checked boyfriend shirt, and is really oversized and comfy. It is red and dark blue, does up by poppers and has 2 pockets in the front. I picked this up in a size 8, and it cost me £9.

The second shirt is an adorable blush-pink and grey tartan shirt. It also has 2 pockets in thr front, and has these little bits of material so that you can easily roll up the sleeves. It buttons up at the front, and the buttons go down the shirt only partially. The back is longer than the front, and the entire shirt is made out of this really silky, slinky material. It comes with a little spare button 🙂 I bought this in a size 10 and it cost me £10.

Next we have these 3 tops. The first is a bright, warm red v-neck T-shirt. I picked it up in a size 10 and it cost me only £2.50! It’s made pretty well, and isn’t see-through at all.

The second is a cute, peach coloured cami top. This one is made out of pretty thin material, but I still really like it. It only cost £1.80, and I picked it up in a size 10.

The third is actually a very big, oversized T-shirt. I just knotted it up at the front because I thought that looked really nice! It is pink, slightly ombre and made out of a super comfy, distressed material. The material for this one is slightly see-through, but not particularly noticeably, and is still made really well. This one was £2, reduced from £5! I picked it up in a size 10.

Next are these two green coloured T-shirts. The first is a khaki green stretchy T-shirt. I absolutely LOVE this colour – it makes me feel badass. It’s completely opaque, is really comfy and is made pretty well. It cost £2.50 and I picked it up in a size 10.

The second is a teal-green T-shirt. It has a high neck, and is made out of the same super comfy material as the high-neck red T-shirt I bought! This one is pretty see-through though (I apologize that you can see my bra through it…,) which I’m not a huge fan of but is something that could easily be remedied by wearing a nude coloured T-shirt bra underneath it. This one was £3 and I bought it in a size 10.

Next we have this GORGEOUS knitted, warm-red jumper! It has these beautiful cut-out, cuffed sleeves, and is longer in the back. It is pretty thick and comfy, and is really well made. I believe I purchased this in a size 10, and it cost £10.

Next, I picked up 2 pairs of black fishnet tights for £3. I bought them in a size small/medium 🙂

I also bought some black canvas ballerina plimsolls! These have a nice rubber sole, and have a cute little bow on the side of each shoe. These are insanely comfortable and are really well made – I can’t believe these only cost me £3! I bought mine in a size 5.

Last but not least out of the clothing items are the little socks I’m wearing with the plimsolls. They came from a 5 pack of black “footsies” – little socks to wear with ballerina pumps. I absolutely hate getting perspiration from my feet onto my shoes, so these were an absolute must. They’re made just fine, are of pretty thin material, and are fairly comfy to wear – they certainly make wearing shoes much more comfy! I have heard other people having problems with them falling down their ankle, but this doesn’t happen to me at all with these. The 5 pack of black “footsies” cost me £2.50.

Lastly are these little bits and bobs. First we have some 100% cotton, round cosmetic pads. I thought I’d use these with toners and to help cleanse my face 🙂 There are 120 pads in this pack, and it only cost 50p!

Secondly is this 60 pack of hairbands. They are apparently in the colour “yellow” – I just bought the ones that matched my hair colour the closest! They cost £1.

Thirdly is this pack of 5 toothbrush covers/caps. I thought these would be handy for travel, to help prevent external bacteria from getting into our toothbrushes. They cost 80p 🙂 I gave my partner one from the pack to use so that he could bring his toothbrush to work (can’t for the life of me remember why he wanted to do this,) hence why one is missing from the pack.

Finally, we have this nail polish! It’s in the colour “Make Me Blush” – a cute pink colour. It’s a rather large 10.5ml pot! I think this colour nail polish is my favourite to wear – it’s simple, goes with everything and just makes your nails look cute and fresh. This only cost me 90p!

Phew, that’s all for this haul! I apologize for writing so much – I know most people enjoy just reading simple haul blog posts, but I just have so much to say about each item. I really don’t buy myself anything often, so everything I bought really excites me!

I actually have visited Primark 3 times since this haul, and thus have 3 more hauls to come… I swear, Primark is full of so many great items these days! I’m pretty much replacing my old wardrobe of clothes though, so I don’t consider it a massive problem. Honestly, I’m going to keep going until I stop finding items that I really like because I’d really like to stock up, so that I don’t have to go out buying clothes for a long time afterwards.

I hope you enjoyed this haul!

Summer Would You Rather Tag.

Tagged by Karalee at Tales of Belle.

Would you rather…

  • Live in a tree house or a castle?
I would much prefer to live in a tree house! I love nature, so living in the trees in some epic forest sounds pretty awesome. Castles are overrated!
  • Be able to sing beautifully or dance beautifully?
I’d much prefer to be able to dance beautifully. I absolutely LOVE dance!
  • Ride a horse or a camel?
I’d love to ride a camel. Something new.
  • Know a fairy or a unicorn?
I’d way prefer to know a fairy. Again, unicorns are overrated guys! What’s all the hype over unicorns these days?! When I was a kid, I used to pretend to my best friend that I had a secret fairy – my own personal fairy that nobody else knew about. Would be so cool if that came true!
  • Have a backyard that was a huge bounce house or a huge ball pit?
I’m pretty lazy, so I’m going to go with the ball pit (as long as it wasn’t an insanely deep one obviously.) It sounds fun to just sort of lay back and chill out in a ball pit, under the nice lovely sunshine.
  • Travel or stay home?
TRAVEL! TRAVEL! TRAVEL! Although I LOVE home, I just HAVE TO see the world! Travel!
  • Be able to fly or be able to breathe under water?
Fly. Terrified of the sea honestly – I wish I wasn’t, but, sharks. And drowning. And being alone in the middle of the ocean. Many nopes. Also, I’ve always wished I were a bird. Birds are almost limitless in terms of where they can go – at least the ones that fly are. They can fly around, walk on land and many can bop around on the water and eat fish. Lucky things!
  • Know where you’re going or have it be a surprise?
I don’t really know. I like the idea of things being a surprise, but… I think if it’s something small, I prefer it to be a surprise. If it is something big and important to me, I’d much rather know about it!
  • Be on a boat or on an airplane?
Boats are fun but scary, airplanes are fun but scary. The upside with planes though is that you get to see all the water AND all the land below you, all in one big go! Pretty amazing!
  • Be able to see in the dark or be able to never get tired?
Well, I do love my sleep. Seeing in the dark sounds sort of creepy though. I have a fear of the dark (or rather, what might be in the dark,) and I’m not sure I really want to find out what it is that I haven’t been seeing up until now! But, I love my sleep! I’d choose neither – if I had to choose then I’d choose to never get tired – get to be more productive that way!
  • Go on a vacation to the beach or to the mountains?
Somewhere with mountains and beaches in close proximity 😛 Okay, well I generally would prefer to go to the beach. I love the coast – gives me a sense of freedom 🙂
  • Have picnics in the forest or in the park?
If there were several people in the forest, then the forest. I’d find it fairly creepy if me and my partner were just sat in the middle of an empty forest. Otherwise, the park!
  • Swim in the ocean or swim in a pool?
Prefer the ocean, although I am also scared of the ocean. But I still prefer it to a pool!
  • Be a dolphin or a cheetah?
Cheetah. Fuck living in the sea.
  • Be able to make people laugh or be able to make people trust you?
Make people laugh. The people who don’t trust me are the people who I don’t really want in my life, so I’d rather be able to make the people who I love and am happy to have in my life, laugh!
  • Be surprised by a present or be able to pick what you get?
Ooh, tough one. I love surprises, but at the same time, I know what I want! I think I’d prefer to give a general idea of what it is that I want, and then the present-buyer person to pick the specifics. E.g, if I really wanted some new Lush, I’d be happy to give my wishlist to anyone who wanted to give me a gift for my Birthday, and then they pick what it is from the wishlist that they want to get me!
  • Eat popsicles or watermelon?
Watermelon! Natural wins over artificial sweeteners, colourings, flavourings…
  • Go camping or stay in a hotel?
Okay, so camping sounds a lot of fun, and is something I did A LOT as a kid. I haven’t been camping anytime recently though, so I’ve sort of become attached to the luxuries of a hotel – a lovely private shower and bathroom, lots of private space… I’m going to say a hotel in general, but, I would love to go camping every now and then!
  • Do art or read?
    Art 🙂
  • Experience an epic waterslide or an epic zip line?
Ooh, see, I did an epic zip line recently over some chasm thing. It was really cool! I’m going to go ahead and say a waterslide, just because I haven’t done much like it recently (plus it sounds REALLY fun!)

I nominate whoever feels like doing this tag!

137 Days Of Summer…

It’s over.

My initial year to get onto an Astrophysics ended yesterday.

If I did well enough in my exams that I took earlier this week, my Astrophysics degree starts on 29th September, according to the University site. The 29th September is a Friday – so I can only imagine that this being the starting date of the course means that this is an induction day of some sort – or that the course ACTUALLY begins on the 2nd October, but they want to make sure all the students are at the University and are ready in time. I’m guessing the former.

That’s 137 days of Summer.

Counting today as the first day, and Thursday 28th September as the last day, I literally have 137 full days of Summer.

I haven’t arranged or scheduled to do anything this Summer – a job or a holiday booked. Not saying I won’t do those things. Maybe I will. Maybe I won’t.

Anyone who has ever been a student knows that it can be difficult to prioritise anything else in their lives while their course is running. I moved into my new flat last September, and haven’t even had the time to redecorate, or to go through our packing boxes and unpack our things. I haven’t even signed up with the local dentist or doctors yet!

Because of this, I wanted to leave my Summer open. For it to be a period of time where upon asking myself the question “Do I have the time to do X activity…?,” The answer will ALWAYS be YES, rather than the other way around! Finally, I have the time to invest in all the activities I have neglected over the past 8 months. That includes important things  like getting a job too! I intended to get myself  job in September last year, but haven’t been able to find the time to even write a damn CV!

Finally, I’m free.

Free to do whatever the hell I want.

I’ve never had a Summer this long in 5 years…

Booooooooooyah!

I want to TRAVEL…

I want to travel.

And I don’t mean a quick trip to somewhere exotic like Thailand or India.

If I could, I’d just stop everything I’m doing, book a ticket somewhere random and just leave, never to return as a permanent resident to drab old England  – ever.

I don’t have a plan or even much idea of where I want to go. I honestly haven’t given it much thought. I just know that here is not where I am supposed to be.

I feel in my heart and in my core that travelling and seeing the world is the type of lifestyle that I’m supposed to have, and I just feel endlessly unsatisfied, bored and lifeless without it being in my life to that extent.

I feel like the type of life I’m living is not even really LIVING at all… And the lifestyles that those around me lead definitely doesn’t feel “right” to me either.

If you live in a big city then you know exactly what I mean – the main focuses of everyday life is:

1. To earn as much money as possible,

2. To spend your life on social media and trying to impress others – what other people think of oneself is of utmost importance,

3. To maintain the status quo, to just accept what is and to not be concerned with changing the dynamics of one’s life,

4. GOALS, PLANS, LIVING A SUCCESSFUL LIFE and THE FUTURE – living in and enjoying moments in the PRESENT are far less important than careful planning for the future,

5. Media, electronics and having no real human connection with other people or the natural world,

6. Having to EARN the right to allow yourself to just be free and do what the hell you want to do with your money and your life – you have to SAVE and WORK a certain amount before it is seen as acceptable for you to “splurge” and go abroad for example…

I’m too afraid to break away entirely from the life I’ve planned for myself. I can’t just up and start travelling around the world.

I do think I’m going to start making travel more of a priority in my life though – I think that if you want to travel then you have to realize a few things…

  1. There is honestly never going to seem to be enough free time to go and do it, you just have to MAKE the time (every single week, I have Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off entirely, and have Thursday evenings off… in my opinion, even THAT is more than enough time to travel a little without having to compromise my sleep or my education…)
  2. You have to get out of the MINDSET that travel is not a priority and that you ought to be doing something more productive with your time, when there are so many benefits to travelling – it isn’t just an unnecessary luxury but something I believe truly enriches one’s life
  3. STOP USING THE EXCUSE THAT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO TRAVEL! There are search functions on many comparison flight websites that allow you to set your destination as “Anywhere”, and some of these sites even allow you to set your outbound and inbound dates as “Cheapest Month”… I’ve seen return flights to places for as little as £13! Besides that, there are so many ways that you can go abroad and stay somewhere for practically free – in many hostels you are able to work to earn your stay, you can try couch surfing, house sitting, work remotely online etc etc etc. Travelers generally won’t just save up a certain amount, allow that money to run out and return home once it has all been used up! They will usually leave with not much and earn money / trade their skills for board or food etc etc etc. This is such an important skill for anyone who wants to travel because learning how to be self sufficient while travelling makes a traveler LIMITLESS! They can literally travel AS LONG AS THEY WANT TO.
  4. Lay off the planning for the future for a little while. What I mean by this, is that when I think about travelling, I always get this nagging voice in my head saying that this is the time in my life where education is a focus and not the time for travel. I get this nagging voice saying I shouldn’t be spending so much money and that I should be saving and investing for my future. Although thinking about the future is undoubtedly a very valuable thing to do, you also have to realize how that way of thinking usually works. You have a goal, say to save up £5k in savings. You reach that goal but even though you promised yourself that once at that point, you’d allow yourself to travel and treat yourself a little, instead you come up with a new goal – say to save up £10k. This goal-orientated way of thinking is always looking to the future and never allowing yourself to just live in and enjoy the present. Balance is healthy, and I think so long as one doesn’t completely blow all of their money on travel without any idea of how they will sustain themselves in the future, then they should be fine.
  5. You can’t travel because you don’t have the equipment to do so? Bullshit. You only need to take with you what the place you are going to visit will not be able to provide for you. Things you use everyday basically – and even a lot of those things you can buy extremely easily once you are there. All you really need is shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, cleanser, any makeup you absolutely must have (concealer, face powder and eyebrow powder for me,) basic everyday clothing, a phone, a book, swimwear, sun cream, lotion, a bag… Oh, and some walking shoes. Just basically anything that is important!

    So… Who’s ready for some adventure…?

    I am!
