I’m Determined To Enjoy Autumn!

Hey guys!

So as you lot may or may not know, I hate the cold. I mean I really, really hate it. As in it’s 21 degrees today outside and I genuinely feel cold.

So, it doesn’t take much to make the jump from I hate the cold to I hate the colder seasons – including Autumn. It’s not that there aren’t things about Autumn that I like, rather that there are so many things about Autumn that I dislike.

So, this blog post is me trying to get myself to enjoy Autumn this year, basically.

My plan is to do something EVERYDAY that would be perfect for the season, to help me to enjoy it more.

So, here’s my first week!

ENJOY THE SEASON – AUTUMN

Saturday September 1st – Go for a parkland walk. This is something that is just SO Autumnal. I mean, walking along parkland walks is something fun to do in any season, but I just can’t imagine it being any more appropriate than when it’s all colourful outside.

Sunday September 2nd – Go to the local pub for drinks, board games and a meal with my partner. This is again, something great to do all year around, but I do find it a cosier thing to do in Autumn more so than any other time of the year!

Monday September 3rd – Meet my partner after work and go to Lush Oxford Street together to buy some cosy products to use in the bath. Obviously, again, baths are great year around – but they’re just the absolute BEST in Autumn – as are using Lush products in general. Summer is too hot to indulge in Lush as much, Spring is just a tad too warm too, in Winter the air is too cold to want to take baths but Autumn? Absolute perfection.

Tuesday September 4th – Cosy night in with red wine, popcorn, pies, face masks, baths, movies and cuddles! I love indulging and snuggling in Autumn!

Wednesday September 5th – Get myself down to the Poundland in Camden to pick up some well deserved Uni supplies! Obviously the best time to prepare for Uni is in Autumn before term time begins, and is something that always helps me to be excited for the year to come.

Thursday September 6th – Have a cosy night in to brush up on my Astrophysics course before the term begins. I’m sure this sounds really, really not fun for a lot of people but I promise, the best time to do this is in couple of weeks of Autumn you have before your course starts up again. It’s a time you’re able to actually be indoors and have the time to focus on brushing up on what YOU want to brush up on.

Friday September 7th – This would be a fantastic day to have some ciders and a takeaway while my partner teaches me some programming. I just really enjoy having cider in Autumn, and obviously you can’t beat having takeaways during this season! I also, as I said before, love studying during Autumn before term time begins, and my partner teaching me what he knows will help me to get ahead in my programming module before it’s even begun!

There you have it! How I’m going to enjoy my first week of Autumn. I hope I gave you Summer lovers some ideas on how you can help yourself to enjoy Autumn this year too 🙂

What I Hate / Love About The Colder Seasons.

Okay so I’m going to be real honest with you guys here. I’m happy for you all that you’re so excited for Autumn – really, I am. But for me? I hate the bringing of the colder months, with a passion. I don’t just dislike the colder months, they genuinely make me feel incredibly depressed. But hey ho, what can you do eh?

To get some of my hatred for the colder seasons off my chest, I decided to write some things I hate about them, and then some things I love about them to leave me feeling a bit more positive about what’s to come.

What I Hate About The Colder Seasons:

uglyautumn.jpg

  1. Everything starts to die and/or hibernate and hide away. All forms of life find the cold so difficult to actually be present in, that they feel the need to reserve their energy to simply stay warm, and stop leaving their homes to be outdoors. I personally hate going outside when it’s cold – Celsius’ in the 20s is my jam and I absolutely adore the warmth of the sun on my bare skin. Sorry guys, I really do hate the cold and being too uncomfortable to just go outside and get some fresh air.

    uglywinter

  2. When so many of the same people who scream “it’s too hot, I miss Winter!” during the Summer, are the people saying “it’s too damn cold, I miss the Summer” during Winter… Come on guys, be decisive. I’m 100% a Summer lover, and will ALWAYS despise the cold.

    uglyautumn1.jpg

  3. Not really being able to wear body-confident, flattering clothing. I only recently became sort-of happy with how my body looks, and was really embracing wearing high-waisted shorts and little tops. Now I’m just going to be back to hiding my body away in bulky clothing!

    uglywinter1.jpg

  4. IT’S JUST TOO DAMN COLD TO EVER BE COMFORTABLE. You either have to wear a billion layers and be uncomfortable from having so many items of clothing rubbing against your body, or, you have to be really cold and get to wear a more comfortable amount of clothing. Even with loads of layers on, I still end up being too cold during the Winter months – especially my legs!

    uglyautumn2

  5. My Birthday. I turn 24 on October 17th, and let me tell you, it’s coming at me way too quickly. I’m at terms with my aging, but I just wish I had a little longer to achieve my yearly goals before I get run over by the continuous cycle of birthdays.

    uglywinter2

  6. Buying Christmas presents. I actually love buying people gifts, but what I don’t like is buying things that the person I give them to probably won’t end up liking all that much. Being an adult, most of the people within my social life are also adults, and already have the funds to purchase whatever it is they desire in life. Finding something for them that they both haven’t already bought for themselves, and that they genuinely would adore, is really flipping difficult.

    uglyautumn3.jpg

  7. How rubbish it looks outside during the colder months. No sunshine, just grey and white clouds filling the skies and looming over everybody. There’s not much to look at either, I mean, it’s all dead. Yeah so the dying leaves on trees turn pretty colours, but they’re still DEAD. I much rather see nice and healthy ALIVE leaves!

    uglywinter3.jpg

  8. The weather, oh God the weather. Rain galore, proudly drenching all my billions of bulky layers and my once-perfect makeup in it’s wake. Icy winds, so cold that they make my cheeks burn and make my nose run. Add the two together, and you get inverted, spiky umbrellas to have to deal with. I hate the weather we get during the colder seasons, it’s the absolute worst.

    uglyautumn4.jpg

  9. THAT IT NEVER SEEMS TO END… Here in good ol’ London, the colder seasons seem to last more like 3.67 seasons rather than their appointed 2. Yep, according to Accuweather, London averages out at only 30 days a year where the high temperature is 22 degrees Celcius. It just drags on and on and on, and when it finally gets warm it’s just a little sprint that lasts for a couple weeks, then cold again for ages before the next warm sprint, or “heat waves” as most Brits like to call it. That’s how cold it always is here, we actually have a dramatic name for when it feels warm in England.

    uglywinter4

  10. FOMO with Lush products, or ‘fear of missing out’. Lush brings out tons of new products for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day, and also add a bunch of new ones to their permanent line after the Lush Summit which occurs every September. This also means a whole bunch of discons just weeks beforehand, and will also mean that more seasonal products will begin appearing in the Lush Kitchen (which won’t generally happen during the rest of the year.) Basically, this means that I personally feel a LOT of pressure to purchase many, many Lush products during the colder months, in fear that I will miss out on said products if I do not do so! This then leads to loss of a lot of money, tons of products to have to find a place to stash in my little flat, and excess of products that turn less and less fresh everyday. I STILL have SO MANY products in my stash, mostly purchased during the Boxing Day sale last year. They’re no longer as fresh as they were back then and, lo and behold, Halloween and Christmas products have already been released once again in Lush.

Things I Love About The Colder Seasons:

beautifulautumn.jpg

  1. I do love how cozy I can be during the colder seasons. I find it difficult to drink hot drinks, soups, stews and heavy meals when it is warm in England, so it’s really nice to be able to indulge in those things again. I also don’t cozy up to my partner so much in the warmer months because of how sticky and uncomfortable that can get, so it will be lovely to be able to do that again! + nice, hot baths…

    beautifulwinter.jpg

  2. Okay so, although I do generally prefer Summertime clothing, I am really excited to break in some of my new clothing items that I bought from Primark recently! I have a gorgeous pair of high waited, black skinny jeans that I’m really looking forward to wearing, and am also looking forward to getting to wear all my new shirts, hoodies, jumpers and hats more! I have a few new pairs of shoes made from waterproof material that I’m also looking forward to getting more use out of!

    beautifulautumn1.jpg

  3. Although there’s nothing I prefer than being outdoors, I’m a pretty lazy lady. When it’s too cold to go outside and I pretty much HAVE to spend my spare time indoors, it’s nice to allow myself to read, go on my laptop, watch T.V. etc without feeling too much guilt!

    beautifulwinter1.jpg

  4. Everyone being so happy on Christmas, and all at the same time. Unless they don’t celebrate it of course, but most people here do! It’s such a nice and cheerful day, everything just feels so positive and happy on Christmas, and it is a day I’m looking forward to 🙂

    beautifulautumn2.jpg

  5. The start of a new term of education. I will be attending University toward the end of September, and the start of a new term is always the most exciting and least stressful time I find (although, I do still find it pretty stressful at this time of year!) Everything is new again – new stationary, new teachers, new classes, new learning material, a new opportunity to make new friends and to attend new societies… It’s just all fresh and fun(ner) at this time of year!

    beautifulwinter2.jpg

  6. The colder months are the months where almost all of my family members’ Birthdays fall within. We kick off with my mother’s on 20th September, then mine on 17th October, then my younger brother’s and sister’s on the 12th November, then my older brother’s on 1st December, and then my eldest sister’s on 16th December. Phew! Add in the start of a new term at Uni, Halloween, Firework’s night, Christmas (+Christmas Eve and Boxing Day,) New Years Day and Valentines Day, and we have an extremely eventful couple of seasons this time of year!

    beautifulautumn3.jpg

  7. I guess the cold, drab months help me to appreciate the warmer ones even more than I already would do, right?

    beautifulwinter3.jpg

  8. Makeup not sweating off of my face and / or becoming oily so quickly! I HATE how sticky my face gets when it’s warm, so I am really looking forward to my face staying a bit more matte in the colder seasons.

    beautifulautumn4.jpg

  9. All the beautiful things specific to the colder months – such as pumpkin lanterns being out on Halloween, all the Bonfires and fireworks for Guy Fawkes Night, Christmas lights lighting up every highstreet, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, peeping through people’s windows to see a glorious Christmas tree, fireworks on New Years… All very beautiful!

    beautifulwinter4

  10. Last but not least, not really needing to shave. I hate the process of shaving my legs with a passion. To be able to get away with NOT having shaved legs the majority of the time will be pretty nice actually.

That’s it from me for now!

Primark Try On Haul 2017! (No. 1)

Hey guys!

After I found out that I had gotten onto my degree , I decided to treat myself by going shopping in Primark. I didn’t feel confident in the clothes that I owned at the time. Clothing is extremely important! It covers up the majority of your body, and feeling unconfident in your clothing feels pretty crappy. It was about time that I bought some clothes that really make me feel good when I wear them. I prefer shopping in person (as opposed to online shopping) when it comes to clothes – I get to try on the clothes in store, and take them home that same day! I also chose Primark because, well, I need a lot of new clothes, and figured that it’d be best to try Primark first to pick up what I like there before trying other, more expensive stores.

My first trip to Primark was extremely successful! I arrived at the Oxford Street Store (the most popular Primark local to me) on a Wednesday morning (when it tends to be the least busy.) I only went to the checkout once I realised that my basket was in fact, overflowing with clothing items.

Let’s get onto the haul!

Note: I obviously didn’t bother taking photos of separate items that come in a multi-pack when they are identical to each-other (e.g the tights and the socks in this post.)

First off, I bought this absolutely gorgeous “wine” coloured dress! It’s a suedette bodycon, and I absolutely adore it- the colour really drew me in! It’s actually amazing quality too. This dress was £13, and I bought it in a size 10 – I’m around 5 ft 4 and 9st 2lbs for reference. I wore this on my anniversary to see Aladdin in the theatre. It makes me feel very elegant 🙂

Next I picked up this gorgeous dress! It is another bodycon dress in the colour black (they had a nude pink colour option too.) It has a peephole back with a little button, a high neck and a lace-up panel in the front. I really love this one! It cost me £13, and I also got this one in a size 10. It is a really good quality dress made out of nice, thick and comfortable material!

I spotted this gorgeous dress, and just had to get it! It has a really colourful leaf design on it, with a grey background. It also has cold-shoulder sleeves, which I love! It’s in a T-shirt dress style, which makes it really comfortable to wear. This beauty only cost me £3 – reduced from £6. 100% worth the money – it’s going to be absolutely perfect for my trip to Mallorca! I also grabbed this in a size 10.

I bought this pinafore dress in the colour “wine”. It is made out of this thick, corduroy material, and has two nice deep pockets in the front. It is super comfortable and is absolutely adorable! I’ve been wearing it all day today 🙂 It was £12, and I bought it in a size 10. They also had exactly the same pinafore dress in black and pink, and also had a blue denim and black denim version of the dress.

The black T-shirt in the photo was also part of my haul – it was £2.50 and I picked it up in a size 12 🙂 Also of very nice quality – it isn’t see through at all!

Next we have this gorgeous pair of dungarees! How absolutely amazing are they – especially for Primark?! I admit, I hadn’t been to Primark for a while prior to this haul, so my expectations were pretty low. They’ve really upped their game! They are black and have two simple suspender straps at the back, and the legs of the dungarees are in the skinny style. They have a nice big pocket in the front, as well as pockets in the front and back of the jeans. The jeans part of the dungarees also have belt loops – handy! They undo from the straps as dungarees usually do, but also have some buttons on the sides of the jeans to help get the job done. These were £17, and I picked them up in a size 12.

The T-shirt was also part of the Primark haul. It is a warm red colour, and cost £3. I bought this in a size 10. This top is made really well – it has a high neck, and is made of the most cozy material I have ever felt a T-shirt be made from! It is also completely opaque.

The socks were also part of the haul! They are just a pair of plain black trainer socks, that came in a 7 pack for £1.80 – absolute bargain! I got them in a size 4-8.

IMG_5555 (2).JPG
Next up is this adorable Pusheen T-shirt! It’s my perfect T-shirt “My Perfect Weekend – Eat, Blog, Party and Sleep.” Okay, so I’m not big on partying, but I do enjoy having a few drinks over the weekend with my partner if that counts! It cost me £6 (fairly pricey for Primark I must say,) and I picked it up in a size 10/12.

I also picked up the black leggings – they are viscose, full length and were, insanely, only £2.80! I got them in a size 10. These leggings are amazing – they’re completely opaque and are insanely comfortable. I could actually live in these.

Next are these two shirts. The first is a checked boyfriend shirt, and is really oversized and comfy. It is red and dark blue, does up by poppers and has 2 pockets in the front. I picked this up in a size 8, and it cost me £9.

The second shirt is an adorable blush-pink and grey tartan shirt. It also has 2 pockets in thr front, and has these little bits of material so that you can easily roll up the sleeves. It buttons up at the front, and the buttons go down the shirt only partially. The back is longer than the front, and the entire shirt is made out of this really silky, slinky material. It comes with a little spare button 🙂 I bought this in a size 10 and it cost me £10.

Next we have these 3 tops. The first is a bright, warm red v-neck T-shirt. I picked it up in a size 10 and it cost me only £2.50! It’s made pretty well, and isn’t see-through at all.

The second is a cute, peach coloured cami top. This one is made out of pretty thin material, but I still really like it. It only cost £1.80, and I picked it up in a size 10.

The third is actually a very big, oversized T-shirt. I just knotted it up at the front because I thought that looked really nice! It is pink, slightly ombre and made out of a super comfy, distressed material. The material for this one is slightly see-through, but not particularly noticeably, and is still made really well. This one was £2, reduced from £5! I picked it up in a size 10.

Next are these two green coloured T-shirts. The first is a khaki green stretchy T-shirt. I absolutely LOVE this colour – it makes me feel badass. It’s completely opaque, is really comfy and is made pretty well. It cost £2.50 and I picked it up in a size 10.

The second is a teal-green T-shirt. It has a high neck, and is made out of the same super comfy material as the high-neck red T-shirt I bought! This one is pretty see-through though (I apologize that you can see my bra through it…,) which I’m not a huge fan of but is something that could easily be remedied by wearing a nude coloured T-shirt bra underneath it. This one was £3 and I bought it in a size 10.

Next we have this GORGEOUS knitted, warm-red jumper! It has these beautiful cut-out, cuffed sleeves, and is longer in the back. It is pretty thick and comfy, and is really well made. I believe I purchased this in a size 10, and it cost £10.

Next, I picked up 2 pairs of black fishnet tights for £3. I bought them in a size small/medium 🙂

I also bought some black canvas ballerina plimsolls! These have a nice rubber sole, and have a cute little bow on the side of each shoe. These are insanely comfortable and are really well made – I can’t believe these only cost me £3! I bought mine in a size 5.

Last but not least out of the clothing items are the little socks I’m wearing with the plimsolls. They came from a 5 pack of black “footsies” – little socks to wear with ballerina pumps. I absolutely hate getting perspiration from my feet onto my shoes, so these were an absolute must. They’re made just fine, are of pretty thin material, and are fairly comfy to wear – they certainly make wearing shoes much more comfy! I have heard other people having problems with them falling down their ankle, but this doesn’t happen to me at all with these. The 5 pack of black “footsies” cost me £2.50.

Lastly are these little bits and bobs. First we have some 100% cotton, round cosmetic pads. I thought I’d use these with toners and to help cleanse my face 🙂 There are 120 pads in this pack, and it only cost 50p!

Secondly is this 60 pack of hairbands. They are apparently in the colour “yellow” – I just bought the ones that matched my hair colour the closest! They cost £1.

Thirdly is this pack of 5 toothbrush covers/caps. I thought these would be handy for travel, to help prevent external bacteria from getting into our toothbrushes. They cost 80p 🙂 I gave my partner one from the pack to use so that he could bring his toothbrush to work (can’t for the life of me remember why he wanted to do this,) hence why one is missing from the pack.

Finally, we have this nail polish! It’s in the colour “Make Me Blush” – a cute pink colour. It’s a rather large 10.5ml pot! I think this colour nail polish is my favourite to wear – it’s simple, goes with everything and just makes your nails look cute and fresh. This only cost me 90p!

Phew, that’s all for this haul! I apologize for writing so much – I know most people enjoy just reading simple haul blog posts, but I just have so much to say about each item. I really don’t buy myself anything often, so everything I bought really excites me!

I actually have visited Primark 3 times since this haul, and thus have 3 more hauls to come… I swear, Primark is full of so many great items these days! I’m pretty much replacing my old wardrobe of clothes though, so I don’t consider it a massive problem. Honestly, I’m going to keep going until I stop finding items that I really like because I’d really like to stock up, so that I don’t have to go out buying clothes for a long time afterwards.

I hope you enjoyed this haul!

Lush Yog Nog Hand And Body Soap Review

Hello!

I finally used up my piece of Yog Nog from last year, here is my review for it! Keep in mind that this soap is no longer available in stores, and is now in the format of a roulade.

Yog Nog Hand And Body Soap

Rating: 5/5*

Cons:

This soap turns very buttery toward the end of the bar. This can be difficult to work with, and for me meant smushing the buttery pieces of soap into my hands to create a lather, and so that they wouldn’t be wasted. This can be inconvenient!

The smell of this soap is very, very strong. It is a very sweet, spicy and slightly bitter smell, all of which can become a bit sickly after a while.

This soap lasts quite a long time. This could make the soap begin to seem boring after a while for some people.

The colour of the soap is a lot less bright than a lot of Lush’s other soaps.

After a while of using this soap, I noticed my hands becoming dry. I don’t know if it was due to this soap or not though, because this soap is generally very moisturising. Something to think about though!

This soap can get quite messy. When it gets quite small, it will break into a few different little pieces, which just end up clinging to the inside of the sink when you wash your hands.

This is a Christmas exclusive product, and has been discontinued and replaced with Yog Log this year. That means that if you do find some from a different source, and really enjoy it, it may be difficult to buy more of the soap.

Pros:

This soap smells so, so good. It smells like a caramel pudding. It smells REALLY good! Definitely like something you would want to eat.

The design of this soap is really cute.

I like the colour of the soap – it goes well with the smell of the soap.

This soap is really moisturising. Compared to other soaps that I have been using, this one definitely left my hands feeling the nicest.

This soap has a very warm feel to it. What I mean by that is that the scent and design of the soap just makes me think of the colder seasons, Christmas and Autumn. It is really nice to use around those times of the year!

The lather that this soap creates is very thick and creamy, it’s really nice to use.

Overall Conclusion:

Overall, I really, really like this soap. My partner really enjoyed it too – he thinks it smells like gingerbread. It is an extremely nice soap and we both miss it now that we’ve used it up!

I rate this soap a… hmm… I’m going to have to give it 5/5*. The main reason is that it isn’t just me who really enjoyed this soap, but the fact that my partner liked it so much too.

I hope you enjoyed this review!
