Lush Imperialis Moisturiser Review.

Hello! 🙂

I am going to be reviewing my recently finished ‘Imperialis Moisturiser’ today! 😀 As always, I list the cons of the product first, so that I can leave the post on a more positive note. I love Lush but I also value honesty, so none of my reviews are sugar-coated and they are all very thorough!

Imperialis Moisturiser:

Rating: **

Cons:

  • This moisturiser is quite heavy if your skin is not very dry. In my opinion, this moisturiser is generally too heavy for both combination and oily skin.
  • I personally did not find this moisturiser super balancing as it claims to be.
  • The smell of this moisturiser is not very pleasant, at least to me. It supposedly smells like lavender, but to me it smells more like… plastic? I’m not sure exactly what it smells like to me, but it isn’t a very nice smell!
  • This product is slightly comedogenic, due to the inclusion of ‘Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter’ and the ‘Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil’. This moisturiser has a comedogenic rating of of 6, cocoa butter having a comedogenic rating of 4 and olive oil having a comedogenic rating of 2. If you do not know what comedogenic means, it is basically a rating of how much an ingredient (usually a butter or oil) will clog your pores.
  • If you do not have very dry skin, you will need an extremely small amount of this moisturiser to moisturise your entire face. I list this as a negative, because this means that the product goes down very, very slowly – which can get a little boring and tedious for me personally, and also because it can start to feel like the product is almost a waste, because it is hardly getting used!
  • The colour of this moisturiser is a sort of… off-peach colour, and personally I find it quite unappealing to look at.
  • The texture of this moisturiser is a little odd – it feels very slightly gelatinous even – possibly due to oily ingredients.
  • The product will get around the rim of the container, which can be a little messy.
  • When any product dries, for example any product that gets caught around the rim of the container, it will dry to a sort of translucent brown dried slime… It is really gross to wipe the rim of your moisturiser to find that on the tissue! 😦
  • This moisturiser is really, really expensive for a moisturiser. In the UK, it costs £13.95, which is a substantial amount more than any other facial moisturiser I have ever purchased.
  • If you have very dry skin in any areas, and you apply this moisturiser to said areas, your skin will sting quite a bit for a short while.
  • On combination or Oily skin, any oily areas may feel slightly greasy after using this product.Pros:
  • If you have dry skin, this moisturiser works incredibly well! Whilst using acne treatment, my skin has gone through some incredibly dry spells – as in extremely flaky skin around my nose, mouth and chin area. This moisturiser was an absolute life-saver, and using it for my flaky skin is what caused me to use it all up!
  • The ingredients are pretty much all natural, so you don’t need to worry about putting anything too artificial on your facial skin.
  • While on holiday in Paris, me and my partner’s hands got extremely dry due to the cold weather, and I hadn’t brought any hand moisturiser with me. I thought “Hey, Imperialis is still a moisturiser, so it should work.” So, I went ahead and used this on our hands, and it worked absolutely brilliantly. So, it might be a bit expensive for a hand cream, but if you’d like a moisturising hand cream, or a facial moisturiser that can double up as a hand cream, I would definitely recommend this!
  • If you would like to try a Lush moisturiser that is vegan, I would recommend this, because this is the least comedogenic moisturiser that Lush sells that is also vegan. This is the reason I purchased it.
  • The product lasts a very long time. I know I listed this as a con, but sometimes I do enjoy this aspect of the product. I do not remember exactly when I purchased this, but I believe it was in October, and I ran out of the product this month (March), meaning it lasted me 5 months. If you have combination or oily skin consistently, this product will last you much longer than this!
  • It does it’s job – it does moisturise the skin very well.
  • This moisturiser leaves your skin feeling very refreshed.
  • It’s a Lush product – Lush products are awesome!!!

    Conclusion:

I personally will not be purchasing this product again and would not generally recommend it, simply because of the fact that it is comedogenic. Even on skin that is not acne prone or oily, I would not take the risk of using this product as it might contribute to acne developing – since it will clog your pores somewhat! If you can afford to do so, I would recommend it for extremely dry or flaky patches of skin – whether on the hands or face, as it does work very well in these areas, and in such cases I think using this moisturiser is worth the risk of it clogging up pores.Overall, I rate this product 2 stars out of 5, because although it does work very well on very dry or flaky skin, it does have pore clogging ingredients!

Lush Big Solid Conditioner Review

Hello! Today I will be reviewing Lush’s ‘Big Solid Conditioner’!

Big Solid Conditioner:

Rating: **

Cons:

  • This product takes an awful lot to lather up. You really have to keep swiping and massaging the bar into your hair for quite a while before there is a noticeable amount of product in your hair. This also means the product gets used up rather quickly.
  • I find that this conditioner bar has a very artificial smell. To me, it smells sort of like hairspray! I am really not keen on the smell of this product.
  • The bar is very plain and boring looking. It is just white, and looks like a regular bar of soap.
  • Immediately after using this conditioner bar, whilst in the shower, it really does not make my hair any smoother. Quite the opposite in fact – as long as my hair is still wet after using this product, my hair will be very knotty!
  • When my bar was almost finished, my cleaner threw it away in the bin – I guess it looked quite unappealing and messy, especially since it is a naked product and does not come with any sort of packaging or container whatsoever.
  • It takes a long time to rinse the product out of your hair. It sort of clings, and you have to rinse very thoroughly to get all the excess product out of your hair.
  • Again, the product coming without packaging is a pain. When you leave it somewhere to dry after using it, when you next go to pick it up, it will leave product behind on the surface.
  • This product is quite difficult to use in the shower, because once it becomes wet, it is likely to slide out of your hand! This has happened to me several times, which is quite irritating!

    Pros:

  • Once you do get the product to lather up, it feels very creamy and pleasant!
  • The product being a solid is quite a nice idea. I like that I can just pick it up and put it down, without any spillage of product… it’s easier to store too… I don’t know why, I just find solid products easier to have!
  • If you use a hairdryer after washing your hair with this conditioner, and at the same time are using your other hand to brush through your hair, once you are done your hair will feel incredibly smooth and conditioned!
  • The product being a solid is also something different, which makes washing hair a little bit more fun and exciting!
  • This conditioner contains lemon juice, which is a natural hair lightener. I am unsure that the product is in the hair long enough to make a difference, but since it takes quite some time to lather up, I’d assume it does to an extent! I believe this conditioner will help your hair look more sun-kissed :).
  • This conditioner supposedly makes your hair more voluminous, and although I did not personally notice this effect, it probably does provide slightly more volume.
  • This is a Lush product, so it is very natural!

    Conclusion:

Personally, I think that this product would work for anyone who is patient in the shower and who wants to try something different. If, however, you want a conditioner that is slightly easier to use, does not leave behind residue or cause any mess, and that works instantly, then this conditioner is not for you. I really do not like the artificial scent of this product either.

Overall, I would choose this conditioner over a conditioner that wasn’t made by Lush, but I would be happy to find a different Lush conditioner that works a bit better than this one does. My rating for this product is 2/5 stars, because I feel that a product’s effects should be noticeable immediately after usage, however you must dry your hair with a hairdryer whilst brushing, for your hair to feel conditioned using this conditioner. Leaving my hair to air dry and drying my hair with a hairdryer but without brushing both left my hair feeling tangled.

Lush Rub Rub Rub Body Scrub Review.

Rub Rub Rub Body Scrub:

Rating: 4/5*

Cons:

  • This product does sort of begin to disintegrate in your hands and onto the shower floor after several uses.
  • I didn’t notice my skin becoming as soft as I did with other products.
  • Toward the end of the product, my house cleaner actually threw away what was left of the product, I guess she thought that it looked unappealing. It was probably about 2 pieces of squishy pieces of product at this point.
  • The product actually damaged my arms and hands one time I used it because I was a bit too rough, so you do need to be quite careful when using it.
  • It comes without a container, and I like my products to come in some sort of a container really to keep them safe.

Pros:

  • This product smells absolutely phenomenal. Like, it is probably my absolutely most favourite smelling Lush product that I have used up thus far. It is really that amazing. It does smell a little like washing machine powder, because that is usually floral scented, and this product is floral scented but not in a noticeably floral way… if that makes any sense at all. It smells delicious!
  • The product looks and feels beautiful! It is a bright purple colour, and as the product reaches the center, it becomes more and more pink-hued. It fits in the hand nicely and has a powdery-waxy sort of a texture, which I really like.
  • The product also has some dried flowers in it, which makes the product feel even more elegant and delicate. It is a product you could imagine being from a traditional Japanese town or something!
  • The smell does linger on the skin, and it is an absolutely divine smell!
  • I just love this product. I really do!

Overall conclusion:

I think this is an absolutely beautiful product. It looks and smells divine. It’s actual effects were a little less noticeable – it did work very well as a scrub, but my skin didn’t feel drastically softer after using the product. The smell does linger on the skin though, which is lovely.

Overall, I would say this is a bit of a luxury, treat product. You can get scrubs that do the job better than this, but this product will be much more beautiful.

That is the end of my review! I will continue to review Lush products whenever I have used up one of them.

Lush Aqua Marina Fresh Cleanser Review.

Aqua Marina Fresh Cleanser (100g version)

Overall Rating: 5/5*

Cons:

  • This product leaves a sort of powdery film on the face, which generally requires rinsing, patting the skin dry, and then re-rinsing any areas that have residue left on them.
  • The smell. It takes a while to become accustomed to, and at first it may feel like wiping something like sushi onto your face… it does seem to be a bit of a gross product to use at first to be honest!
  • The consistency of the product straight from the pot is almost slimy, which again, is kind of gross!
  • I found that sometimes the product would sting my face slightly when using it. Id guess that this was due to the fine sea salt mixed into there irritating my skin slightly.
  • This product expires way, way before you will use it up. I just continued to use the product and it was fine, but some people may not want to do that which would mean wasting the majority of the product!
  • The product was every so slightly drying due to the powdery residue left behind on the skin.
  • The smell of the product does cling to the skin, so if anyone comes close to your face, they will notice it.
  • The pieces of seaweed will 100% get stuck in your hairline, eye area, eyebrows etc, and you will have to pick any noticeable pieces out or get someone else to, even after rinsing very thoroughly.

Pros:

  • THIS PRODUCT IS 100% NON-COMEDOGENIC! This means that it will 100% NOT clog your pores!
  • I actually quite like the soft, fine, powdery film that this product leaves on my face. It leaves my face feeling incredibly soft.
  • This product cleanses the skin very well.
  • The smell does grow on you. I actually found the smell to be very refreshing by the end of the pot of product.
  • The product lasts for ages! I had this product from around October through to March, so a good 5 months (although the product technically expired after 1-2 months…)
  • When creating the mixture in your hand, the product feels so fluffy and soft, like a beautiful mousse.
  • This product will make your skin look gorgeous! After every usage, my skin looked noticeably brighter and lighter, and any redness was drastically reduced.

Overall conclusion:

I really was not keen on this product at first, mostly because of the smell and the texture of the product on my hands straight from the pot. But, the product really grew on me with continuous usage. You do have to give this product a chance for you to begin to truly appreciate it. It just made my skin feel and look so beautiful, and without clogging my pores. I actually used it in a way slightly different to how they recommend. My method of using products is that more is better than less. I prefer to use slightly too much of a product and that it definitely works, than to use too little and for it to not reach it’s full effectiveness. What I would thoroughly wet my face, and then pinch out an amount from the pot and place it into the palm of my left hand. I would then start working the product, without adding any additional water other than what was on my hands from wetting my face, until it formed a very even consistency – like a pink mousse. I’d then apply this all over my wet face, and it would spread around perfectly.

Overall, I would highly recommend this product. Yes, it does take a while to get used to, and can be a pain sometimes, but it is definitely worth it for it’s effects on the skin!

Lush Chou Chou… I Love you Toothy Tab Review.

Hello!

Today I will be reviewing Lush’s ‘Chou Chou… I Love you Toothy Tab’!

Chou Chou… I Love you Toothy Tab

Rating: ****

Negative Points:

  • This product has been discontinued! Chou Chou was only in the Lush store for a short amount of time, and will now only be available in the Lush kitchen sporadically. It is always very irritating when Lush discontinue products!
  • The colour of these toothy tabs are a sort of clay-brown colour. This can be slightly off putting to see when wet, mushy pieces of the product fall into the sink whilst brushing teeth! So off putting in fact that this alone probably would have meant me not repurchasing the product!
  • The toothy tabs contain rose oil, which may block pores if the product touches any of the skin around the lips.
  • This product came in a cardboard box. When I brought my box of toothy tabs with me when I went to see my relatives, the box somehow got wet whilst in my backpack. This meant that several toothy tabs turned into mush and merged together.
  • The taste of these toothy tabs did not make me feel particularly fresh or clean.
  • Whilst brushing teeth, lots of little pieces of toothy tab would fall into the sink, as stated before, meaning that a lot of product is wasted when using toothy tabs.
  • Sometimes, using one toothy tab did not feel like an adequate amount to fully clean my teeth, so occasionally I would feel like I would need to use a second toothy tab half way through brushing my teeth.

    Positive Points:

  • This box of toothy tabs was incredibly environmentally friendly! Once all the product was used up, the box could be easily recycled, leaving no waste.
  • Toothy tabs from lush use baking soda as their main cleaning ingredient. This means that they contain much less chemicals like flouride, which may actually have negative effects on the health. All ingredients in toothy tabs are entirely natural.
  • The smell and taste of these toothy tabs was lovely – like a very sweet, rose-scented turkish delight.
  • Using toothy tabs always left my teeth feeling incredibly clean physically.
  • Lush is a very ethical company, so buying any products from Lush mean you’re helping a good cause!
  • The toothy tabs foam up very well.
  • They do not taste like flouride.

Conclusion of the Chou Chou… I Love You Tooth Tab:

I think these toothy tabs, for the most part, were a pleasure to use. I do wish that they were a different colour, and that they weren’t in cardboard packaging. I also think a fresher taste would have made the transition from conventional toothpaste to toothy tab easier.
Overall, I think that if you really enjoy the taste of sweet, rose-flavoured sweets, and if you do not think the packaging or colour of the product would bother you, I’d go ahead and try these! They take a bit of getting used to, but I couldn’t go back to using toothpaste now that I have tried Lush’s toothy tabs! Overall, I give them four stars :).

Lush Dream Steam Steamer Tab Review.

Hello!

Today I will be reviewing the Dream Steam Steamer Tab from Lush 🙂

Dream Steam Steamer Tab:

Rating: ***

Negative Points:

  • Again, this tab does not really work in the way that it is intended to be used. The steam does not penetrate the skin, and after steaming my face, my facial skin did not feel any different.
  • The product is £2.50, which I think is a little steep for a small tab that you can only get one use out of!

Positive Points:

  • The solution that this tab produces… feels incredible. I mean that literally, the solution produced feels incredible. When I realised that steaming my face did not really work, I grabbed a cotton round and dipped it into the solution. Instantly, my hand was greeted by soft, light, moisturising water. I fully soaked the cotton round, and swiped it over my face, making sure my facial skin was completely covered. The solution made with this tab feels so soft and sensitive on the skin, like liquid clouds, pillows and marshmallows!
  • The scent is quite sweet and rose-like, it smells very pleasant.
  • Using the water on your face makes you feel like a queen, and feels like a luxurious indulgence – who doesn’t want that every once in a while?

Conclusion of the Dream Steam Steamer Tab:

This product does feel lovely on the skin, and smells beautiful, however it truly is a one use item – meaning it is quite expensive. However good it feels on the skin, I can’t think of any useful way that I could use the Dream Steam solution daily, so storing it would be pointless. It is nice to indulge every once and then, and it does feel and smell marvelous.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for something to use as a treat, maybe an added step to a pamper session!

Lush Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face and Body Scrub Review

Hello readers!

Today I will be writing another Lush review. This review will be for the product ‘Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face and Body Scrub’. As with any reviews I have written or will write for any Lush products, I make sure to use up the product completely before reviewing, so that I can give a well-informed opinion of the item. Where there is more than one size option to choose from for the product, I will write which size I opted for in brackets. I always do the cons first so that the reviews can end on a more positive note!

Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face and Body Scrub (120g version)
Rating: 3/5*

Cons:

  • This scrub can be very… scrubby… If using it on the face, as I did for the most part, be careful with the larger blue coloured pieces of salt! They can really damage the skin if not used very carefully!
  • This product is actually slightly comedogenic, with an overall comedogenic rating of 6. The contributing ingredients to this are the Avocado Butter (comedogenic rating of 2), and the Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (comedogenic rating of 4). This basically means that this product will clog your pores to an extent, so if you have larger pores, acne prone skin or if you just do not want your pores to become clogged, I’d stay away from using this product on the face.
  • I was not informed of this, but the product needs to be thoroughly mixed through before you begin using it. This is so that the fine and coarse salts will be evenly distributed. I did not do this, so the final third or so of the product that I used was primarily fine salt. This meant that it wasn’t very scrubby at all, so I had to use a lot more of the product per use to get the desired effect.
  • This product is easiest to use in the shower. This is because it is slightly messy, and it is just easier to rinse off this way. The problem with this, is that generally when you scoop out some of the product, your hands will be wet, as when you close the lid on the product. This causes water to enter the pot. Toward the end of the product, the consistency was very runny for this reason, again meaning that I had to use more of the product at a time to get the desired effect.
  • When using this product, some would often get in my hairline by accident. When rinsed out, the product’s Avocado Butter and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil would leave a residue on the hair in my hairline, making it feel quite oily after having just washed it.
  • This product can leave the skin feeling quite oily!

    Pros:

  • This scrub is made with all natural ingredients, so you know exactly what you are using on your skin as opposed to the majority of skincare products out there. It feels much more pleasant to know you are rubbing a mixture of sea salt, fruit oils and other natural ingredients into your skin, than a bunch of chemicals that you have never heard of before!
  • This product is, in my opinion, very affordable. It SEEMS expensive when you first go to purchase it, but the product does last a very, very long time. My 120g pot of this product lasted me from around the beginning of September up until the beginning of March, so half a year! That is approximately £1.33 per month for a decent facial scrub!
  • This product smells lovely in my opinion. To me, it smells like a beautifully refreshing alcoholic beverage made from limes and sea salt, which sounds odd, but it smells lovely!
  • The product looks very nice. The coarse sea salt is bright blue whilst the rest of the product is an off-white colour, together making a beautiful oceanic swirl.
  • This product does leave your face feeling incredibly smooth and soft!
  • If you have any dry patches of skin, wave bye bye to them!

Overall conclusion of this product:

I really liked this product at first – it made my facial skin feel smoother and more moisturised than I had ever felt it before. It is an unusual experience to touch your skin and it feeling completely foreign to you, but it was welcomed. After reading up on some of the ingredients, I found that some were comedogenic. My skin is acne-prone, so after discovering this I discontinued using it on my face, and instead used it on other areas of my body. The products consistency toward the end was very irritating!

Overall, I would say that this product is very nice to use on the body, but I would stay away from using it on the face entirely. Even if you do have dry skin, in my opinion it is not worth encouraging the development of acne on the face!
